Raw Food Diet For Pitbulls
Changing a pet’s diet can be a challenging job .
Particularly since most animals always want to eat the same type of food they’re taught to eat.
If possible …
a dog should be given raw (or mostly raw) meals from puppyhood, but unfortunately …
Most raw food pet only acknowledges the benefits of the raw diet when they are well into their maturity, and they often find themselves wishing to switch their pets to this type of diet as well.
Fortunately, dogs are naturally prone to eat meat or meat-based meals !
Putting your dog on a healthy meat-based raw diet (the way nature intended) should, in fact, be easier than coaching your dog to consume canned or dry dog food.
On the other hand … a few things should be considered before making the alteration. One of them is that adult pitbull, which have been on a certain diet for a long time, will likely experience gastrointestinal disorders from any diet change.
This doesn’t happen because the new food is bad for them, but for the reason that their intestinal surroundings are adjusted to only a narrow range of foods.
Keeping your dog’s diet varied is also known to help avoid dog food-induced allergies, which can be rather uncomfortable for both the pet and the owner.
When swapping to a raw meat diet for dogs, there are mostly two methods that are commonly used.
The Rapid Switch Method
As the name implies, involves swapping your dog abruptly from his old diet to a raw food diet.
It is also the simplest method to change to a raw food diet for pitbulls.
For some dogs, particularly those who are very familiar with their old diet, the rapid switch method may not occur well. Dog owners can use the Transition method.
In the transition method, you progressively introduce raw meat into your dog’s diet by adding a slight of it to your dog’s usual food. For each meal, you slowly increase the ratio of raw meat to his old diet, until when you are able to serve 100% raw meat.
RAW FOOD DIET FOR PITBULLS: 4 GUIDELINES
Here are some guidelines to make the transition stress-free on you:
Purchase where you purchase your meats and food. Your pitbull needs human grade food. To ensure you get meats and food that are safe to eat, purchase from reliable sources. Where you purchase the food you eat is a good choice.
- Be positive: dogs are very sensitive to anxieties or doubt. Being confident will reassure your pet about your choice to change to a new – raw food diet for pitbulls – .
- Go slow with older pitbull: the older the pitbull (or, the longer it has been eating kibble), the longer you should take to switch to the new diet.
- Choose one particular meat to start: while variety is vital to good health when feeding a raw diet, it’s good to start with one type of meat throughout your transition (if possible the same meat type you are presently feeding). This will make it easier on your dog’s digestive system.
- Starve your pitbull the night before: your dog will have a better interest in the new food the next morning and this also gives their digestive system a chance to rest.
I hope I haven’t scared anyone too much with this article. So this is my method.
I’d really love to know whether you agree or disagree with any of these points, and whether or not I’ve perhaps missed something important.
